Client Service Manager

Director, Primary Research

Nielsen Claritas is seeking a detail-oriented, experienced, and productive market researcher to join our team in the downtown Chicago office.

Reports to: Vice President, Primary Research

Key Responsibilities:

The person in this position will be responsible for overseeing results-driven custom market research projects, as well as syndicated market research (Nielsen Claritas' Convergence Audit, a large-scale survey of US households to measure behaviors related to voice, video, data and energy). This position involves responsibilities related to management of assigned staff and described work/products, associated sales support, product strategy, client opportunities, staff and applications training.

Custom research project work involves full responsibility for developing strong client relationships and coordinating projects from beginning to end, including:

  • Development of an understanding of clients' business issues and research objectives through client discussions/conference calls
  • Translation of objectives into research design, yielding actionable results
  • Project design, and proposal creation
  • Project planning and scheduling
  • Project management
  • Analysis, report-writing and presentation of research results.

This position will also have direct responsibility for communications and energy syndicated and recontact research for Nielsen Claritas' Convergence Audit, leading and defining the process for this product, from methodology and content review, through finalization and QC of data file. Specific related tasks include:

  • Define/design survey product, to meet product goals
  • Overall management of product, including vision, product positioning/scope, licensing/pricing, data requirements, etc.
  • Develop/maintain understanding of the category/topical and related business issues
  • Conduct advisory sessions to obtain client input
  • Update survey content, incorporating industry learnings and client input
  • Develop and monitor research schedule
  • Identify, negotiate for, and procure project resources
  • Manage data collection process with goal toward successful completion
  • Data file creation and QC
  • Provide support as needed to Claritas sales and clients
  • Develop strategies and identify revenue growth for product.

Performance related to the planning and accomplishment of goals is highly reliant on relevant work experience, and solid judgment.

Requirements: The ideal candidate will have 6-10 years marketing research experience, including project and survey design, project management, data analysis, report-writing, and presentation skills.

Must have:

  • BA/BS in relevant field
  • Research design experience
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to draw conclusions/implications/recommendations
  • Proven skills at writing succinctly and effectively
  • Direct prior client interaction
  • Strong interpersonal/relationship skills
  • Client presentation skills

Experience with SPSS, SAS and/or data analysis or cross-tab packages is preferred.

Prior experience working with clients in the Communications industry is a plus. Master's Degree in related field a plus.

This position requires less than 25% travel.
